New Pilbara hotel set to begin construction in August

The construction of a $20 million Hilton Garden Inn in Karratha is set to begin in August after a six month delay.

The designs for the 100-room hotel project, a joint initiative between the City of Karratha and developer Pacifica Developments, were held up due to the delay of the sale of land at The Quarter from LandCorp to the City.

Speaking to the Pilbara News, Pacifica director John Zendler said it took a lot longer than expected for the City to complete their deal with LandCorp.

“That sale only got executed three days before the Christmas break and you lose January in the construction industry, so we were only in a position to start designing at the end of January,” he said.

City Mayor Peter Long said the designs for the project show a modern hotel that “aligns with council’s vision for the Karratha city centre”.

“The City understands that these types of projects are complex to deliver and is not concerned by the initial delay,” he said.

The hotel is slated to open by mid-2020.
