Sunshine Coast brewhouse to become James Squire

The Wharf Tavern on the Sunshine Coast has closed its doors to undergo a major refurbishment before it reopens as a new James Squire brewhouse.

The pub is expected to close for about 10 weeks before reopening as The Savvy Squire in Mooloolaba.

Previously a nightclub venue, the tavern’s new look will have a more family-friendly focus aligning it with the other venues which make up part of a $10 million revitalisation of The Wharf precinct over the past two years.

The Savvy Squire will offer the James Squire and Malt Shovel Brewery range of beers on tap, as well as a number of limited release brews, while the kitchen will focus on modern pub food using local produce.

The layout will include intimate spaces for small groups, a traditional pub setting and a stand-up space for corporate gatherings.

Speaking to the Sunshine Coast Daily, The Wharf precinct director and co-owner Evans Long said the venue, operated by the ALH Group, will be a “perfect fit” as one of the last pieces of the puzzle of The Wharf’s revamp.

There are also plans to open up the western end of the tavern as part of the redevelopment, to allow for easy access for people walking through The Wharf complex.
