Popular Cairns café announces sudden closure

Village Cafe on Collins in Cairns has shut its doors after three years.

The café, which had a seating capacity for 40 and a further 26 outside, had a focus on using sustainable and fresh produce across its offering that included cookies, sauces, jams, soda press syrups, teas and coffee.

The business was listed for sale in March with LJ Hooker Cairns Edge Hill for $125,000.

Announcing the news on Facebook, owner Mark Slimmer said the decision was “kind of devastating”.

“We regret to advise that Village Cafe is closed as of today Monday 27th May,” the post on the cafe’s Facebook page read.

“We would like to thank all of our members and regular guests for your support over the last three years, it has been a pleasure to serve you.”

Slimmer said he had no further plans following the closure.
