Dual branded Melbourne Airport hotel gets greenlight

A new 464-room hotel at Melbourne Airport is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

The dual-branded Ibis Styles/Novotel hotel has been given the greenlight by the Federal Government, marking the first hotel at the airport in almost two decades.

Construction will begin this year on the Fender Katsalidis-designed hotel, in a new precinct called The Hive, which will also include a café, pub, bar and restaurant, conference rooms and flexible working areas.

“This development will turn an underutilised, accessible and high-quality urban site into a space that will bring economic and social benefit to the region through increased hotel accommodation, fantastic new recreational areas and employment opportunities," said Melbourne Airport chief of property Linc Horton.

Accor's Pacific chief operating officer Simon McGrath said they were thrilled to be embarking on another dual-branded hotel complex.

"This newest member of the AccorHotels group will be a vibrant development which captures the essence of Melbourne through its interiors and warm welcome to guests," he said.
