Construction of Adelaide Oval hotel to begin at the end of the footy season

Built Environs has been chosen to build the Adelaide Oval hotel, beating three other construction companies to the contract.

The Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority (SMA) announced the local company had won the tender for the controversial $42 million project, saying it won’t disrupt the footy or cricket.

“We spent a lot of time with Built Environs understanding how they want to build and the impact it will have on game day,” said SMA chair Kevin Scarce. “I’m delighted to say that it’s going to have a minimal impact.”

Construction of the hotel, to be attached to the eastern grandstand, will begin at the end of this year’s home-and-away AFL season and is due to be complete by September next year in time for the T20 World Cup.

The SMA hoped to have hotel operations up and running to take bookings for the hotel starting January next year.

“We’ll start now with employing key people in the hotel,” Scarce said.

Built Environs managing director Daryl Young said they would use mobile cranes that will get moved away on game day.

“There will be no impediment to the public getting access to the stadium,” he said.
