Darwin’s Rorkes pub reborn as Smith St Social

The former Rorkes pub in Darwin will open on August 2 as the Smith St Social.

The Australian Venue Company, who is behind Monsoons and Shenannigans in Darwin’s Mitchell Street, said they were excited to introduce Smith St Social to Darwin.

Chief executive officer Paul Waterson told the NT News the property has been “reborn as an all-occasions destination”.

“We wanted to create a vibrant space for the local community with a real focus on a quality, simple offering done well,” he said.

“This is somewhere for everyone – you can go and sit with friends and family to enjoy a meal in the bistro or say cheers with a few knock-offs afterwork on the rooftop. We hope Darwin love it.”

The pub will offer a newly designed a new menu executive chef Christian Abbot with all the pub classics plus a range of share plates, and will also offer brunch every Saturday on the ground floor bistro.

Australian Venue Company chairman Bob East said the company will continue to look at new pub acquisitions with a five-year expansion plan.

Backed by private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Australian Venue Company operates venues in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Perth.
