Food firms to cash in on Asian markets

Food producers and manufacturers in south-west Victoria are preparing to take advantage of growing markets in South-East Asia and India.

The Warrnambool council met companies in the dairy, meat processing and transport sectors on Friday to discuss how to promote their products in the region.

Mayor Jacinta Ermacora says south-west Victoria produces a quarter of Australia's dairy products and it is well placed to sell into Asian and Indian markets.

"It's an enormous opportunity, over the next five to 10 years, to tool up our region to feed the Asian communities, China, Vietnam, Indonesia," she said.
