Star Group to revitalise Sunshine Coast hotel and entertainment precinct ahead of Olympics
The Star Entertainment Group could move its head office Queensland.
The Group already plans to spend billions of dollars transforming Queen’s Wharf in Brisbane, with the project expected to transform the southern end of the CBD.
The move would come following the fallout from the Bell review into its operations in NSW, with the NSW government giving he group the cold shoulder on a new hotel development.
A move to Queensland would come ahead of the 2032 Olympic Games and would allow Star to build a tourist friendly precinct.
Including the Queen’s Wharf development, Star is overseeing a multibillion-dollar development portfolio in the Sunshine State: the new $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf project in Brisbane and the Government-approved $2 billion-plus masterplan for The Star Gold Coast.
Included in the South Wharf development will be four hotels, around 50 restaurants, cafes and bars, public space the size of 12 football fields, rejuvenation of riverfront areas and over $10 million spent on art installations in the precinct.
Star is also considering adding museum and gallery spaces for the arts and sports in some of the heritage buildings.
The Star has been working on a series of enormous upgrades on the Gold Coast in recent years.
Two new hotels have been built and opened, one of them with hundreds of private apartments. There is construction happening on another hotel and apartment tower and a plan to build another three towers in the future.
Star teamed up with the Queensland Government and Nine Entertainment to bring the Logies to the Gold Coast, which this year, in order to allow for extra guests, will be held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.
The Logies contract expires this year.
