Chef Guy Grossi brings his revered Italian style to Brisbane

One of Melbourne’s favourite chefs is heading to Brisbane to open a new CBD restaurant.

Guy Grossi already has six food establishments across Australia, including Melbourne institution Florentino and will now add his seventh with Italian restaurant Settimo – meaning “seventh”.

The restaurant will be part of The Westin hotel on Mary St and inspired by the Amalfi Coast. It will have a strong focus on seafood, pasta and top-notch Queensland produce.

“I’m really excited about joining the Brisbane food scene,” Grossi said.

“It has just developed so much and at a rapid rate, you just can’t help but want to be part of that.”

Settimo will be the Westin’s hotel’s signature restaurant and a standalone venue. It is the second venue, Grossi has opened in conjunction with the hotel brand the first being Garum in Perth.

Diners will enjoy the full Italian experience with a kitchen garden street entry providing the scent of rosemary and olive and lemon trees.

Queensland’s great seafood will be on show.

“The coastal fishers and all of that along the Queensland coast is not that far removed the Amalfi Coast – it’s a similar type of thing, so I think it matches really well to the produce we’ll be able to source up here,” Grossi said.

Swordfish, tuna or coral trout cooked with generous splashings of olive oil and lemon juice or an Italian fish sauce made from anchovies will be a highlight of the menu as will Grossi’s signature octopus with potatoes.

Diners will also enjoy a range of pasta, gnocchi sorrentina featuring gnocchi in a tomato sauce with buffalo mozzarella melted over the top, steaks and vegetable dishes that can work as sides or standalone entrees and mains.

The drinks menu will also be extensive and a mix of Australian and Italian styles.

Grossi is aiming to open Settimo in mid-November.
