$750,000 grant to support Tasmania’s hospitality sector

Tasmania’s Liberal Government will look to boost its hospitality sector via the $750,000 Revitalising Local Hospitality Venues Grant Program.

The idea behind the grant which will open on 1 September is to strengthen the state’s already world-class hospitality sector.

$5,000 will be delivered to up to 150 eligible hospitality businesses, funds that will help them recover from COVID-19 issues, purchase equipment and deliver tourist boosting and locals attracting projects.

In the June quarter, Tasmania enjoyed a its strongest quarter on record attracting 300,000 visitors to the state.

The government wants to continue the momentum through the summer season with bookings already looking healthy and a bumper season on the cards.

“The hospitality sector contributed more than $720 million to the Tasmanian economy last year and we are confident that this will continue to grow,” Nic Street, Minister for Hospitality and Events said.

“This new grant program will inject much needed funds into the sector and allow business owners to prepare for another busy summer season.”

The grant was developed with the Tasmanian Hospitality Association, with Street calling the sector the “backbone of both our tourism industry and our local way of life”.
