Sofitel Sydney Wentworth set to unveil $70 million refurbishment in November
The Sofitel Sydney Wentworth will open its $70 million refurbishment to the public in November.
The French-inspired refurb will be unveiled in time to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, commemorating 60 years of French art de vivre.
Qantas established the hotel in the 1960s as Australia's leading international 5-star hotel.
The recent refurbishment aims to revive the charm of this golden era, blending its mid-century elegance with a fresh, modern vision for today’s guests.
A partnership between Sofitel and Sydney-based House Made Hospitality, has redefined the hotel’s food and beverage offerings. The revamped precinct now includes two signature restaurants, tilda and Delta Rue, along with two bars—Bar tilda and the Wentworth Bar — plus one of Sydney’s largest outdoor terrace bars.
Architectural and interior design firm FK led the renovation, carefully preserving the building's original post-war minimalist aesthetic while updating it to meet the expectations of modern travellers. The redesign incorporates luxurious materials, soft curves, and rich textures, evoking nostalgia while providing contemporary comfort.
A lighting installation, inspired by Sofitel’s signature candlelight ritual, lights the way to the lobby. The open-plan space, infused with mid-century design elements, features cozy lounge areas and transitions to the tilda.
Guests are able to manage their stay through an interactive app.
This streamlined approach to check-in allows visitors to focus on enjoying the hotel’s luxurious amenities, while the Guest Relations lounge provides personalised service in a contemporary setting.
The hotel’s 436 guest rooms and suites have been modernided while preserving their connection to the 1960s. Each room curves around the terrace, blending nostalgic décor with modern comforts such as MySmart lighting systems and Nespresso machines.
French Balmain bath amenities and Sofitel’s signature MyBed™ add to the luxury experience, ensuring a comfortable and indulgent stay.
Wellness is also a priority and guests can enjoy a “Wellness Bag,” complete with portable gym equipment, allowing them to maintain their fitness routine in-room or while exploring nearby attractions like the Botanic Gardens and Opera House.
Meanwhile, the hotel maintains its corporate appeal.
The ballroom includes one of Australia’s largest LED screens.
Working with Encore Event Technologies, the hotel’s event spaces now feature advanced lighting, presentation tools, and sound systems, solidifying its position as a leader in both corporate and social events.
In addition to its tech upgrades, the culinary experience at Sofitel’s conference spaces has been elevated by Michelin-trained Executive Chef Bektaş Özcan. His focus on using local, sustainable ingredients ensures that guests enjoy an unforgettable dining experience, whether at an intimate business meeting or a grand celebration.
