Man fights for life after one punch assault at The Ettamogah Pub

A highly-respected businessman is fighting for life after he was the alleged victim of a one-punch assault at a pub on Tuesday night. Police have charged a 43-year-old man.

The victim of a one punch assault is now fighting following post Melbourne Cup festivities with friends at the Ettamogah Pub in Kellyville Ridge.

Highly respected businessman Paul Griffin, 55, was enjoying drinks on Tuesday night when he was assaulted just before 8pm.

Griffin remains in a critical condition in hospital.

A 43-year-old man was arrested the following morning and later charged by police.

“Following a search of a property in Plumpton, police allegedly located 36 cannabis plants and a hydroponic setup,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Officers also located and seized a number of items for forensic testing.

“The man was taken to Riverstone Police Station and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm and cultivate prohibited plant.”

He has been refused bail and will appear before Blacktown Local Court on Thursday.

Griffin is being supported by his staff, family and radio host Ray Hadley, who told 2GB listeners the alleged victim is “a colossal person supporting sport and local business”.

Griffin serves as the senior football coordinator and a sponsor of the Hills Bulls Rugby League Club. This year, he was recognized in local community awards for his contributions to sport and recreation. It’s understood that his daughter works as a NSW Police officer in Sydney.

The accsued is currently assisting police with their inquiries. He was arrested around 9:15 am on Wednesday at a home in Glendenning. Police had been called to The Ettamogah Pub just before 8 pm following reports of an assault. Witnesses reported that a man had punched a 55-year-old before fleeing the scene.

On Wednesday morning, there was limited activity at the pub, although a NSW Police detective was seen entering the premises at approximately 9:30 am. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with police alleging that the two men were not acquainted.
