Popular Irish pub in Melbourne to serve last drinks on St Patrick’s Day
An Irish pub in Melbourne will serve its last drinks on St Patrick’s Day as its lease comes to an end.
The Quiet Man Irish Pub in Flemington will shut its doors for good on March 17 after 27 years' of service.
"After 27 years of pints, tunes, Irish food, and mighty craic, The Quiet Man will be closing - going out with a bang on St Patrick's Day," a social media post from the venue said.
"We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who's ever walked through our doors - whether you were here for a quick pint, a Sunday session, or just to remind yourself what Guinness is supposed to taste like.
"You've made this place more than just a pub - you've made it a home.
"There's still time to squeeze in a few more rounds, belt out a few more songs, and send The Quiet Man off in proper style. So round up your mates, pop in for one (or several), and help us give this grand old pub the farewell it deserves. Sláinte, and see you at the bar."
The pub has reportedly served around two million pints of Guinness, roughly one million meals and hosted thousands of gigs.
The support came thick and fast following the news.
"So sad and sorry to hear. This pub was where my partner and I met 25 years ago and has always been a favourite place for us to celebrate all our occasions. Good food, good drinks, music and happy environment. Will be missed!" one person wrote in response to the social media post..
Another posted: "Such a shame that you're closing down, very nice food and drinks with an old school/friendly atmosphere at the QM".
"Some fantastic days and nights in the QM, memories that we'll never forget," a third said.
The menu included a full Irish breakfast, beef and Guinness pie, Irish strew, and McDonnell's chicken curry.
Hospitality group Zengal Hospitality, known for operating Jimmy O'Neill's in St Kilda and Naughty Nancy's in Prahran, acquired the venue last October and according to The Shout is planning to renovate the space.
