Assault leads to a fatality at a Geelong hotel
A Geelong hotel was the scene of a fatal assault overnight, after an 82-year-old man was allegedly stabbed by a suspect in his 30s.
The horrific attack occurred in an upstairs room of the pub, with investigators responding to the incident just prior to midnight.
The elderly man was treated at the scene but couldn’t be revived. Detectives from the Homicide Squad are now investigating the incident.
It is believed the two men were residents of the hotel living area on top of the pub. The alleged assailant fled prior to Victoria Police arriving.
"The area has been cordoned off and a crime scene established. Officers from the Major Crime Scene Unit will also attend the scene," Victoria Police said in a statement.
"A search is currently underway to locate the other man involved."
Police believe the incident is isolated as the two people involved are known to each other.
