Popular Melbourne restaurant Bluetrain serves its final meal
Popular Melbourne restaurant Bluetrain has served its last meal, joining several businesses that have exited the Southgate complex.
The family-owned restaurant has been in service at the site since 1993 but closed its doors almost two weeks ago. Last year Bluetrain sought damages from the landlord of around $2 million, alleging they had allowed the complex to “fall into disrepair”.
Southgate is managed by asset manager ESR Australia on behalf of Suntec and ARA Private Funds. The owners have confirmed a $4.5 million upgrade to the lobby area is taking place.
“We’d been there a long time, it’s a sad way to finish,” one of the owners of Bluetrain, Xavier DiMattina said.
“It was close to our hearts and we’d looked after people for many years.”
Bluetrain was situated on the third level of the Southgate complex, neighbouring Miyako Japanese Cuisine and Teppanyaki, which closed its doors in July last year after 27 years in service.
JB-Hi Fi is another business that has exited the complex.
However new tenants are moving in, including San Churro.
