Queensland pub manager calls out youth crime after robbery
A Queensland pub manager has taken matters into his own hands, as youth crime continues to soar.
After the Creek Tavern was robbed in broad daylight on Monday about 4pm local time, general manager of Damien Strong “quickly jumped into action”.
Five teenagers entered the licenced store and stole some premix alcohol packs.
“A gang of local ratbag youths that have obviously been causing trouble absolutely everywhere just walked in and did a big snatch and grab in the place,” Strong told news.com.au.
Strong said the teenagers looked “untouchable”.
“You put out what you want to attract,” he said after posting the incident on Facebook to help identify the culprits.
“So all those drop kicks are starting to gather traction...it’s not just a couple of bad eggs, those couple of bad eggs are meeting bad eggs and those bad eggs are multiplying.”
The videos have now been shared hundreds of times.
Strong believes the community response is due to community frustration and is calling for authorities to step in as “something needs to get done before something tagic happens”.
“What’s happening with those kids, what’s led them to that life?” Strong asked.
“I’m no Dr Phil, but they’re all obviously gaining traction and they’ve got a whole heap of knuckleheads... and they’re not even scared.”
According to Strong, many in the community now fear for their lives.
“All those things are insured, mate,” he said in reference to the stolen alcohol, which amounted to a few hundred dollars.
“But the thing is...you don’t know what they’re capable of as a group onto one person if they’re going to do that, they don’t respect anything.”
Strong called the staff member on duty during the robbery “a bloody legend” but said “he doesn’t deserve to come to work while he’s doing his job and put up with that crap.”
“If that was your dad, if that was your mum, if that was your brother, if that was your sister, you know what I mean?” he asked.
“They’ve all got knives and everything these days, they’ve got everything.
“They’re just a little gang of punks, they need to get treated accordingly.”
Strong wants to see a crackdown by authorities.
“I hope justice prevails from here because the little dropkicks need to be held accountable for being losers.”
Police are investigating.
