Pub owner happy with heritage listing

The manager of a historic far north Queensland pub says she is glad it will be protected, after it was added to the state's heritage register.

Mossman's largest hotel, The Daintree Inn, was rebuilt in the 1930s after being damaged by a cyclone for the third time.

The Queensland Heritage Council says it was an important part of Mossman's social life, hosting events such as important civic dinners and World War II fundraisers.

Manager Melynda Harding says the hotel is still loved by locals and worth protecting.

"It was just something I wanted to happen but I didn't know if it would," she said.

"I hadn't really said anything to anyone and then it just came up, so I just tapped a glass and said, oh well, 'it's yours forever now and no-one's allowed to ... knock it down or change it or do anything with it'.

"They ... just said, 'oh good on you Melynda' and they were really happy now."
