Meatworks expansion lifts export potential

The Victorian Government says the expansion of an abattoir near Stawell will improve its ability to export meat overseas.

The Government will provide $500,000 to help Frewstal to build a new freezer-chiller and to extend its loading area.

The $2 million project is expected to create up to 50 new jobs when it is finished early next year.

Agriculture Minister Peter Walsh says the investment will help strengthen the local economy.

"These additional cool stores will give them the quality control that they need to be able to ship lamb overseas and grow markets for Victorian lamb in the future," he said.

"It's one of the key strategies to work with industry to create jobs in Victoria to develop export markets and this project fits the criteria."
