Legal claim settled years after victim died

A legal claim over the death of an Adelaide man who ate contaminated smallgoods has been settled, seven years after he died.

Richard Formosa was 52 when he died in 2005.

He visited the Royal Adelaide Hospital and ate chicken products there which were contaminated with listeria.

His mother and intellectually-disabled brother sued the hospital and Conroys Smallgoods, which supplied the products.

The District Court has heard a $200,000 out-of-court settlement has been reached.

Lawyer John Doherty says the Formosa family is relieved to have the legal matter resolved.

"The deceased was the glue that held the household together so his death was a great tragedy and that's the basis of the claim. They had a dependency on him and that's been taken away," he said.
