Hoteliers raise $9000 for fight against cancer

After a successful day on the golf course, the region’s hoteliers raised $9000 to keep locals with cancer on the fairway.

The money comes from a charity golf day the local sub-branch of the Australian Hotels Association held last month.

Every penny will stay in town, helping the Young-Boorowa branch of cancer charity CanAssist give aid to locals affected by the disease.

Garry Cummins, an AHA member and owner of the Young Hotel, said he was pleased the money will support Young's cancer sufferers.

“I think it's a pretty good cause," he said. "My mother's been through it, my brother's been through it.

“We’ve still got money coming in in dribs and drabs, but we’ve got a definite $9000 for the cause.”

Mr Cummins wanted to thank Adrian Hanrahan, president of the Young Golf Club, and Phil Cartwright, owner of the golf shop, for helping with the event.
