Narrabri hotel receives top award

Narrabri's Crossroads Hotel has won the Best Budget Pub-Style Accommodation award at the Australian Hotels Association NSW Awards for Excellence.

The winners were announced at a gala function attended by over 1000 people from the hotel industry at The Star in Sydney, on Monday night.

There were a record 338 finalists across 32 categories in this year's awards.

The Crossroads was also a finalist in the Best Casual Dining Venue and Overall Hotel of the Year in the country category.

"This award is a fantastic recognition of the Narrabri region," said proprietor Campbell McIntosh.

"Narree and I would like to particularly thank our hard working staff, who without them this award would not be possible, and the tremendous support we receive from the local community."

December 19 marks two years since the hotel was renovated and reopened.

"It was always nice to come back to Narrabri where my dad worked as a local agent and where I was born and Narree grew up, and went to school, and be able to breathe new life back into the hotel, and complete additional executive accommodation and bowling lanes," said Campbell.

Narree said the award capped off a great night.

"We're thrilled with the result," she said.

AHA NSW CEO Paul Nicolaou said the awards set the standard for the nation's hotel industry.

"This year we had more finalists in more categories than ever before," he said.

"Our 1800 premises across NSW are the backbone of the tourism and hospitality industry and set the benchmark for quality service.

"I congratulate not only the winners, but all hoteliers big and small on their community spirit and their dedication to the industry and their patrons."

Industry icons John and Justin Hemmes were honoured for their contributions to hospitality with both included in the AHA NSW Hall of Fame at the event.
