Andrew McConnell announces refit for Golden Fields

As predicted here in August, Golden Fields, the wonderful Andrew McConnell restaurant in Melbourne's St Kilda, will close in April. It will reopen two weeks later as a new partnership with chef Chris Watson. The space will become a wine bar with wine-focused, European food open at night and weekends from lunch. McConnell said the new venue is so far unnamed. "It's the only thing we can't agree on," he said.

Watson is the head chef of Cutler & Co, one of McConnell's other acclaimed restaurants. Rory Coucher will be promoted to fill Watson's position at Cutler & Co.

Some Golden Fields staff, including head chef Todd Moses, will be moved to McConnell's other new restaurant, Supernormal, in the CBD.

It seems likely that much of the Golden Fields DNA and menu will be rolled into the city store.
