Police say no formal complaints lodged over pub racism row

Police have confirmed no formal complaints have been made against a publican in Western Australia's Goldfields who barred Indigenous people from entering her hotel.

Last week, the Denver City Hotel in Coolgardie made national headlines when it displayed a sign out the front refusing service to Indigenous people.

The sign claimed the ban stemmed from the alleged theft of a mobile phone.

The Equal Opportunity Commission said the hotel could be liable for racial discrimination under the Equal Opportunity Act.

The Australian Hotel's Association labelled the hotel's actions as "shocking" and encouraged authorities to prosecute the hotel to the "full extent of the law".

The publican has since removed the sign and apologised to the community.

Police say no charges have been laid at this time.
