The most profitable pokies in NSW revealed

The top 10 most profitable pubs and clubs with poker machines in NSW have been revealed.

The Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority does not make the profits public, but they were leaked to 7News.

The Australian Hotels Association would not discuss the rankings.

“The fact that the hotels association won't talk about this just shows that not only are they merchants of misery - they're also cowards,” Anti-gambling campaigner Nick Xenophon said.

As much as $2 million passes through poker machines at each of the top pokie pubs in NSW each week.

The Oasis on Beamish in Campsie had a good year in 2013, raking in $148,000 per week in the pokies till, accumulating to $1.776 million in three months.

On track for a better year, the Railway Hotel in Lidcombe took $150,000 per week, the Meridian Hotel in Hurstville took $163,000 per week, and the Bass Hill Twin Willows Hotel took almost $2 million in 12 weeks.

The Eastwood Hotel is the second most profitable pokie pub in the state, with a three month taking of more than $2 million.

In NSW, pokies are capable of being ‘loaded’ with up to $10,000 in one go, and a large proportion of this relates to money laundering.

But when it comes to the pokies game, El Cortez in Canley Vale is the absolute jackpot location.

The pokies have pulled in $170,000 dollars per week in net profit, a cash windfall of $2.04 million since the start of the year.

7 news approached the owners of El Cortez Redcape Hotel Group, who own three of the top 10 pokie performers, for comment with no response.

“The first thing the state government should do is release pokie machine numbers, at the very least we should know how much is lost on a postcode basis,” Nick said.

“That way communities can work out the extent of the damage and what needs to be done to wind back that damage."
