A NEW kid on the block has taken the rank of Australia’s best accommodation provider.

And it looks set to put the regional Victorian city of Ballarat firmly on the map for luxury hotel stays.

Ballarat Premier Apartments has just been rated No.1 Australian hotel - the only Aussie spot to make the Asia and Oceania top 10 - in a new list based on travellers’ reviews on Booking.com.

The recently restored heritage mansion, in the heart of the historic Gold Rush city, rated No.4 on the list of hotels in the region.

“Absolutely stunning, clean, luxurious and modern rooms with a huge emphasis on glamour,” wrote reviewer Kimberly.

“The owners have done a magnificent job restoring this historic building to the highest standard possible,” wrote Antonio.

The top three spots on the Asia and Oceania list went to Lake Tekapo Lodge in New Zealand, Gion Morisyo in Japan and Meracus Hotel 2 in Vietnam.

Full rates for stays at the Ballarat apartments start from $230 a night, although last-minute discount rates for a studio apartment are as low as $160.

Booking.com isn’t the only site where travellers have rated the hotel highly.

The apartments also ranked No.3 in Australia in the luxury category of TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice awards, and No.4 in the small hotels category.

Booking.com’s Best of Booking’s Best lists are a selection of top accommodations as rated by almost 20 million customer reviews.

“Not all reviews are created equal. By offering the largest collection of qualified reviews that are real, relevant and recent, Booking.com is exclusively positioned to put this authentic, first-hand feedback to work for travellers,” said Booking.com spokesman Paul Hennessy.
