The idea is to bring foodies to Manly for a week of special deals at participating restaurants.

“Restaurant Week Manly will give people a chance to try explore the local restaurant scene and try out new places,” Mr Tuck said.

“There should be some good deals for the customer.”

Mr Tuck has seen a similar event blossom in his home city, San Diego.

“San Diego Restaurant Week is now in its 10th year. It started in the beachside suburb of La Jolla with only a few restaurants,” he said.

Participating restaurants will offer a fixed-price lunch or dinner deal.

“Deals have to represent good value, I think $20-$30 for a two-course lunch should be the limit,” he said.

To kickstart the campaign, Mr Tuck has created a Facebook page, Restaurant Week Manly.

Ten Manly and three Freshwater eateries, including Mr Tuck’s employer, Bavarian Bier Cafe, have posted their interest, he said.

Darley Rd pizzeria De Vita has come on board. Manager Luca Canonico can see the benefits for both restaurant and suburb.

“It is a great idea and a good way of attracting more customers to Manly,” he said.

“We are hoping to have a good lunch deal and a value for money dinner degustation.”

With the Friday night Global Food markets in summer and Manly Food, Wine & Sustainability Festival already part of the vibrant foodie scene, Manly Council has welcomed the idea.

“Council welcomes any initiative that promotes Manly and its restaurants.

We look forward to seeing how this new idea unfolds,” a council spokesperson said.
