How you can get a table at Heston Blumenthal's restaurant

Ladies and Gentlemen: start your engines. The ballot for celebrity chef extraordinaire Heston Blumenthal's first Australian restaurant - an outpost of his famous three Michelin-starred venue The Fat Duck - opens this morning on the restaurant's website.

Wondering how many people will sign up? To give you a ballpark idea, Blumenthal himself said that The Fat Duck's UK outpost receives 30,000 calls a day enquiring about reservations.

If you win the ballot, you get the chance to sit at one of the restaurant's exclusive tables at Melbourne's Crown Casino for a degustation diner of 12-15 courses that will set you back a cool $525 - and that's just for food. But what you'll get is a taste of Blumenthal's wacky food magic, which in the past has included everything from dry ice to edible crockery and his infamous 'meat fruit' sweetbreads.
