Thatchers Gold wins Cider Awards

Thatchers Gold gets the goods at the Cider Awards

Thatchers Gold has won three of the major trophies at the fourth annual Australian Cider Awards. The premium English cider, which is kegged by Coopers Brewery and distributed in Australia by both Coopers and Premium Beverages, claimed the three titles: Best in Show, Best Cider and Best International Cider/Perry.

This is the first time Thatchers Gold has entered the Australian Cider Awards since launching in January 2014 and it was up against 150 Australian and International entries across 17 categories.

The judges, chaired by Gary Baldwin and guest expert Malcolm Reeves from New Zealand, said Thatchers was chosen as Best in Show because it showed “complex spiced apple characters and aromas – a lovely example of a medium cider in the traditional style.”

Thatchers MD – and fourth generation cider maker, Martin Thatcher believes “this is a result of the unique and traditional family recipe used to make Thatchers Gold, including the use of cider apples harvested from Thatchers own Somerset orchards. The balanced taste means Thatchers Gold is perfectly matched with food, especially spicy flavours – our recent sponsorship of Good Food Month in Sydney and Melbourne is testament to our belief in the brand’s potential in Australia.”

The Australian Cider Awards, organised by Cider Australia – the national association of Cider and Perry growers and producers – are aimed at showcasing and celebrating the best apple and pear ciders available across the country. They are open to all locally produced and imported ciders.
