Perth pop-up club

Pop-up club has stars under the stars

Laid-back: Courtney Graham, Jaylee Osborne and Clint Van Dijken get ready for Sets in the City.

Perth has hosted its share of pop-up shops and restaurants in recent years, and next month music fans will get their first pop-up club.

Transforming the City of Perth Terrace Road carpark overflow into a temporary venue with lounges, food trucks and a stage with a skyline backdrop, Sets in the City is the newest venture by Offworld Productions, best known for Scarborough's popular Sets on the Beach.

At a time when many big music festivals are winding back or cancelling Perth dates, Offworld executive events manager Jaylee Osborne believes the demand is growing for niche events that cater to a smaller, more discerning crowd.

"Perth is screaming out for it," she said. "Boutique events are where it's at and what audiences are drawn to.

"The large scale multistage festivals aren't really drawing the crowds anymore. It's smaller, eclectic and boutique events that are getting attention." Focusing on quality rather than quantity, Ms Osborne and her colleagues are creating a spacious pop-up venue for Sets in the City without caged licensed and unlicensed areas.

"We thought it would be a great idea to recreate Sets on the Beach but at night and less than half the size, catering to a different crowd - an after-work or more mature crowd," Ms Osborne said.

The line-up on November 7 includes international DJ duo Classixx, Mark Farina, Sampology, Cassian and Perth artist Elk Road in stylish decor that mimics the location's surroundings.

This includes the palm trees along Riverside Drive and the stage has the city skyline as the backdrop.

"At night, with all the buildings lit up, it is going to look incredible," Ms Osborne said.

"It's going to be a really nice outdoor and scenic space where you will be able to enjoy yourself watching world-class entertainment."
