One of Australia’s swankiest restaurant groups has been invited to set up shop at the popular Avalon Surf Life Saving Club.

Trippas White Group has been named as preferred operator for the lease of the newly renovated restaurant during Monday night’s Pittwater Council meeting.

The respected restaurant and catering enterprise looks after 11 venues, including Sydney Tower’s 360 Bar and Dining, Centennial Parklands Dining, The Pavilion by the Domain and Canberra’s National Portrait Gallery lakeside restaurant.

The high-end catering group was picked over award-winning chef and Clontarf resident Serge Dansereau.

Trippas White Group managing director Joseph Murray said Avalon fitted in with the group’s staple.

“We believe the club encapsulates the essence of an Australian lifestyle: sun, surf and a sense of community,” Mr Murray said.

“The concepts in our proposal focus on further activating the club and its surrounds for members, locals, and visitors alike; making it a destination in itself.”

Voting to approve the preferred tenderer, councillor Ian White said “it’s above what we expected”.

Mayor Jacqueline Townsend said finding the right operator had been a long road that included two failed call-outs, but said it was all worth it.

“We’re going to have a resource here that we’ve never had before,” she said.
