A toast to WA's top hotels

A toast to WA s top hotels
WA's Best Hospitality: Print Hall.

A pair of western suburbs drinking institutions that had a nip-and-tuck have had their efforts recognised at the Australian Hotels Association WA's hospitality awards.

The Subiaco Hotel and the Cottesloe Beach Hotel, both popular venues that had arguably lost some of their shine in recent years, were jointly named best redeveloped venue for 2014 at an award ceremony at Crown Perth last night.

READ ON FOR AWARD LIST

In July, the Subiaco Hotel lifted the curtain on its multimillion-dollar renovation, which included a new outdoor rooftop terrace.

Additions to the Cottesloe Beach Hotel, which was also named Perth's best hospitality venue, include the Beach Club and, more recently, Cott & Co Fish Bar.

Print Hall confirmed its reputation as one of the best things to happen to the Perth CBD for years by taking out the top award, WA's best hospitality venue, for the second year in a row.

Print Hall, which opened in 2012 as the key-stone tenant of the Brookfield Place development, also won the wine list award and its sommelier Daniel Wegener saw off competitors from Bistro Guillaume and the Terrace Hotel to win that category.

Laneway Lounge

Other inner-city venues to get an award included The Laneway Lounge (best cocktail bar), The Boheme (safe cellar) and Universal Bar (late night).

Varnish on King Street, a runner-up for last year's small bar award, was a joint winner in the category this year alongside Beaufort Street's Clarences.

Matisse Beach Club

Further afield, Como's Karalee on Preston took out the steak sandwich award, while Scarborough's Matisse Beach Club won the new venue award.

AHA WA chief executive Bradley Woods said 2014 had been a "great year" for the State's hospitality scene.

"(Among the award-winners) we have celebrated proven industry leaders but also the new kids on the block who are bringing an enormous sense of excitement to WA hospitality," he said.
