Australia’s only world-class hotel?
A SYDNEY hotel that reopened just six months ago has been the only one in Australia to make a prestigious list of the world’s top 100 hotels.
The Langham was relaunched late last year after a four-month transformation into a world-class, 98-room property.
This week, luxury-focused US publication the Robb Report delivered the ultimate recognition by including the hotel in its biennale list of the world’s best.
No other hotels in Australia, and none in New Zealand rated a mention.
Others that did make the grade were New York City’s St Regis Hotel, The Peninsula in Hong Kong, Le Bristol Paris and the Four Seasons Milano.
Of The Langham, the Robb Report said: “Relaxed yet refined in style, the rooms and suites are now the city’s largest”.
“Delectable pastries and afternoon tea at Palm Court are not to be missed.”
With room rates ranging from $635 to $3500, The Langham was among the more reasonable on the list.
Others such as New York’s Baccarat Hotel charged from $900 to $20,000 a night, and the Four Seasons des Buerges in Switzerland offered rooms from $1020 a night, rising to $14,500.
The Langham General Manager Sonia Lefevre said they were “humbled to be recognised on a global level, and in the company of the world’s finest luxury hotels”.
“Sydney is a glamorous city, like Paris, London or New York and there is no secret we had hoped to cater to people who are aspirational about those style of cities,” said Ms Lefevre.
“Therefore to be recognised as one of the best hotels in the world so early in our repositioning journey, means we have certainly delivered what we set out to achieve.”
GA Design out of London played a critical part in designing every detail of the hotel, including every room, and each piece of furniture.
“Each space, public or private, features sophisticated design features that are unique to the hotel,” said Ms Lefevre.
One of the biggest drawcards of The Langham is the Sotheby’s hand-curated art collection, featuring an array of Australian artists Sidney Nolan, Andrew Browne, Albert Tucker and Brett Whiteley.
The Robb Report has previously recognised The Villas at Crown Towers in Melbourne and the Park Hyatt in Sydney, in a list of the Asia-Pacific’s top hotels.
