Broken Hill night club remains on 'most violent' list for second consecutive round

Police say they are disappointed a Broken Hill night club has maintained its spot on the list of most violent venues in New South Wales for a second consecutive round.

The number of NSW venues considered 'most violent' has reduced from 19 to 13 in the past six months, but the Theatre Royal Hotel, home of the Night Train night club, has failed to shed its listing.

Barrier Local Area Commander Murray Reynolds said it was disappointing the club has remained on the list.

He said both individuals entering the club and the licensee needed to accept a greater responsibility.

"It's a premises that we've tried to work co-operatively with, with the licensee," he said.

"We were keen to ensure that it didn't get to this stage, but I must say the licensee was quite determined to operate how she saw fit.

"As police here in Broken Hill we're not happy that the pub's on this list because it doesn't reflect, generally, licensed premises in the Broken Hill area.

"Generally most licensed premises in Broken Hill are very compliant."

The licensee of the Theatre Royal Hotel declined the ABC's request for an interview.

But Australian Hotels Association state council delegate Dean Trengove said while there was a spike in violent incidents at one time, there has been an overall downward trend.

"There was a possibility that they wouldn't make the list because the incidents were trending downwards," he said.

"But just the hangover effect of previous incidents in the previous six months has meant that those statistics have rolled over into the next six months and therefore the venue's still on the list."

Mr Trengove said work was being done to curb the risk of alcohol-related violence in the future.

"[The licensee] has added a lot more policies and procedures that should reduce the risk of incidents and statistics moving forward," he said.

"She had a couple of incidents in six months, I don't know too many licensed premises in New South Wales that wouldn't have had a couple of aggressive moments in a six month period."
