InterContinental Hotel opens Rooftop Dining

Rooftop hotel dining is big in Asia, and now Australian hotels are starting to follow the trend. Sydney’s InterContinental Hotel has opened a Supper Club on its 32nd floor rooftop, with late-night dining and views, but only after 9pm.

The hotel has contracted small-bar operators, Grasshopper, to run the space, and will offer food until midnight on week nights and 2pm on weekends.

“The view is absolutely world class,” says Grasshopper’s Martin O’Sullivan. “We have a gun-barrel view of both the Opera House and the Bridge. It can’t be beaten.”

The food will be contemporary Australian by chef Constantin Kautz, with dishes including spanner crab with avocado, green apple and botarga, and wagyu sliders.

O’Sullivan says the rooftop trend may be catching. “We’ve already been contacted by others interested in the concept,” he says.
