Mobile bookings for hotels going up, shows Expedia data

According to the latest data released by Expedia Group, mobile bookings for hotels continue to show an upward trend this year. New figures by the travel company reveal that more than one in four room nights were booked using a mobile device during the first quarter of 2015.

The numbers also suggest that given the large share of international bookings completed within two days of travel or stay, Australian hoteliers can look into exploring the last minute travel market and make sure they invest in the required technology for developing mobile capabilities.

David Hamblin, senior director of Market Management, Asia Pacific, for the Expedia group, said the data provided valuable insights for hotel operators on the importance of mobile and how this could impact their business. “Mobile is a hot topic in our industry and it will continue to make a significant impact to the way consumers plan and purchase travel for years to come. It’s only logical to assume as more people access the Internet via their mobile phones, more people will be shopping and purchasing travel from their mobile device,” reported ETB Travel News.

Another key insight from Expedia Q1 2015 mobile booking data were that Singapore is the fastest growing Asian market for mobile demand of Australian hotels and also that mobile is quite popular for weekend stays.
