‘Blissful’ 30-storey highrise planned for Gold Coast’s Chevron Island

Chevron Island looks set to reach new heights with a 30-level serving of “blissful’’ apartment living.

A purpose-formed development company has unveiled plans for a tower – Bliss on Chevron – to front Thomas Drive, the suburb’s main thoroughfare, and Darrambal St .

Bliss will have 228 apartments and include a cafe and resident-friendly features such as a drying and storage room on each floor for surfboards and bicycles.

Developer HWI Saltwater, which has been refining its Bliss plans in consultation with the city council, is seeking development approval for the tower, which it hopes to start building in April.

A 30-level building will be permissible under the new city plan awaiting gazettal.

HWI’s Cedric Rodrigues said Bliss was designed to capture the “residential and village feel” of Chevron Island.

“We’re aware it will set the tone for other projects on Chevron so we have worked hard to get it right.

“The street-front landscaping will be right in keeping with the existing character of the island.”

Bliss is the third tower planned on Chevron, with lawyer Tony Hickey having approval for a 15-level tower at the western end of the shopping strip and Brisbane’s Citimark group seeking approval for a 21-level tower on neighbouring land.

HWI Saltwater’s major shareholder is Nichantha Palliyaguru, who heads Surfers Paradise-based Highland Works Infrastructure.

The Bliss site spans five titles, including one occupied by a florist shop, which are under unconditional contract. They total 2990sq m and the purchase settles in December.

Mr Rodrigues said Bliss was aimed at owner-occupiers who wanted to be near their work, such as city council staff moving into two Bundall office towers.

He said many of the apartments in the east-facing tower would have 180-degree views of the Surfers skyline, the ocean and the Nerang River.

The apartments would range from studio units to three-bedroom suites and there would be five two-level townhouses fronting Darrambal St. Floor areas would go from 65 to 150sq m and prices are expected to be in the $310,000 to $750,000 range.

The tower, designed by BDA Architecture, will have a three-level basement that will provide at least one park for each apartment.

A podium level will include a residents’ lounge, gymnasium, barbecue area and 25m wet-edge heated pool.
