Weis Restaurant sale attracts strong interest

The former Weis Restaurant could be in for a major overhaul judging by expressions of interest received by marketers.

Submissions from motel operators and aged-care facilities have been among the 26 submissions made to marketing agent LJ Hooker Commercial Southwest Queensland principal Mike Stewart.

Mr Stewart said the location and size of the site were major contributing factors to interest in the property.

While remaining coy about details, Mr Stewart said it was unlikely the future site would reflect its current use.

"The uses are unlikely to reflect the name," he said.

"The whole interest is about the location.

"Motels, aged care facilities, a few food operators - they have been among the expressions of interest."

Mr Stewart said the site's potential was virtually unrestricted due to council zoning on the block and its size.

"It's more about the location than anything else," he said.

"There are a lot of different uses possible (and) the current zoning means they can do a fair bit with it.

"I always thought I would get a lot of interest due mainly to its location at 2 Margaret St and the 4500sq m block of land."

A decision is expected next month.

Weis closed on March 1 after 46 years of operation in Toowoomba.

The site was listed for sale in April.
