Yungaburra restaurant owner Nick Crameri against banning children from restaurants

A YUNGABURRA restaurant’s ban on young children has drawn criticism from another eatery amid fears the town’s reputation as a family friendly destination may be tarnished.

The owner of Flynn’s Restaurant, Liam Flynn introduced the minimum age requirement of seven after an incident with a family and their noisy child at his restaurant on Sunday.

Nick Crameri has run Nick’s Restaurant in Yungaburra for 29 years and believes the trick to making sure children are well behaved when eating out is to anticipate trouble.

“We try to give them food right away,” he said.

“If we see them starting to get restless, then we give them toys, something to draw on, puzzles or musical instruments.

“I don’t want to put the other restaurant down, but Yungaburra is a family town, especially now that it’s school holidays, there are kids everywhere.”

Nick’s Restaurant has a separate dining area for families and Mr Crameri says parents play a role in their children’s behaviour.

“About 95 per cent of kids are very well behaved,” he said.

“You have to go out with your kids, but you have to control your kids.”

Mr Crameri doesn’t believe in banning children from nice restaurants, saying they need to learn the etiquette of eating out.
