Chinese buyers relocating from New Zealand are understood to have bought the 1.55ha hideaway.
Property records indicate the suburb’s previous highest purchase was set in 2006 by Mr Pickering himself, when he paid $2.45 million to buy back the Quambone St home.

He had earlier owned the Tuscan-style mansion from 1999 to 2003 but opted to return to the property, citing the fact he could not find a comparably private retreat of quality.
Despite having “mixed feelings” about leaving his long-time home, Mr Pickering said he was pleased with the result.
“I was obviously pretty happy with the price to let it go before the auction.”
The house has a stunning outlook.
Mr Pickering, who is fighting cocaine charges stemming from parties hosted at his penthouse at the Moroccan Resort in Surfers Paradise, is looking to buy in the Nobby Beach area.
He told the Bulletin in April he wanted to move to the beach to spend more time with his teenage son Reece, who is a keen surfer.
“His mum lives at Broadbeach and he stays there because he wants to get up at 5am and go surfing.”
“We’ve got a penthouse in Surfers which we’re going to pop into in the short-term (until we) find the right place for us,” he added on Friday.
The seven-bedroom house, which Mr Pickering claims to have spent $2 million renovating, is stacked with features including a tennis court, pool, spa, sauna and cinema.
The house has a spacious dressing room.
The home boasts sensation city skyline views.
