Hot Rock Pizza in WA voted best takeaway in Australia by Menulog users
This is the first time a WA restaurant has taken out the award, which is in its fifth year. Tens of thousands of Menulog users voted between 15 May and 30 June, 2015.
Owner of Hot Rock Pizza, Met Erok, says he’s stoked to win an award for the second year in a row — Hot Rock Pizza won the WA state award in 2014.
“We were really humbled, we were very surprised.,” Mr Erok told news.com.au. “We’re a popular store but we weren’t expecting to be the national winner.
“It’s good for business because the win adds credibility to your product and the exposure is good because we’re a small, family-run business. It’s also rewarding for the staff that do such a good job.”
Mr Erok says Hot Rock’s success isn’t a secret.
“We use fresh ingredients which we source locally. All our vegetables are from local growers and local butchers and we make our bread fresh each day. We don’t use any frozen dough and we make our sauce in house with good quality crushed tomatoes.”
There’s also the novelty factor. Hot Rock sells a lamb kebab pizza, a blue cheese and bacon pizza and a Tokyo pizza with chicken and Japanese mayonaisse. But the best sellers are the more traditional chilli prawn and spinach and feta combinations.
Australians clearly love Friday night pizza — four out of the five state winners are pizzerias:
New South Wales: Manoosh Pizzeria in Enmore
Victoria: Fahrenheit Pizza in Fitzroy
Queensland: Italia Pizza & Pasta on the Sunshine Coast
Western Australia: Pappa’s Pizza Thornlie on the outskirts of Perth
South Australia: Beyond India in Adelaide
Menulog didn’t award winners in the ACT, NT or Tasmania.
