Healthy future for Top of Town with Nourish Real Food Cafe

THE characteristic Top of Town precinct is starting to come of age as developments such as the $7 million Circa 160 bring new businesses to town.

Nourish Real Food Cafe opened recently - bringing that bit of New Farm to Ipswich as Circa 160 developers promised - and will be joined in the coming months by a German beer cafe and a coffee roastery.

Owner Jessica Chapman from Eastern Heights said she wanted to bring something of her expertise as a naturopath back into Ipswich.

"I wanted to do the sort of food that I eat and that I am passionate about making and serve to the public so I thought I might as well do it in my own hometown," she said.

Behind the rustic fit-out and decor and trendy presentation is a strong agenda for sustainable farm practices and supporting local produce and fair trade.

"It's not just healthy options; a lot of the food is what you would expect to find anywhere, but the focus is on organic produce. All of our produce is coming from eco farms, which is organic fresh produce. I'm more concerned about sustainability and eco-friendly practices."

The cafe uses "paddock to the plate" Schultes Meats at Plainlands, Scenic Rim Robotic Dairy and Barambah Organics diary products.

"I have seen the way they run their farms and I like their practices," she said.

Ms Chapman said it was the character of the heritage building that brought her and partner Amanda Hill to set up in Circa 160.

"We just thought the space leant itself nicely to a classy, health food cafe. With the beer hall and coffee roastery, hopefully it will become a little hive of activity this end of town. The more things that open like that, the more people will want to stay in town rather than go to Brisbane to spend money."
