Bar boss David Freeman allegedly having trouble settling his beer tab

HE’S the Sydney bar boss who’s allegedly having trouble settling his beer tab.

David Freeman, the son of late Sydney underworld figure George Freeman, is facing potential bankruptcy stemming from a $70,000 beer debt to brewery giant Tooheys.

According to documents tendered to the Federal Circuit Court, Freeman, who owns Kings Cross nightclub The Backroom, last year allegedly failed to pay his beer bill to Tooheys, worth $70,855.

The company called in the lawyers and sued Freeman in the Downing Centre Local Court last year where it won a judgment for the amount on November 12, 2014, according to a background of the case included in Tooheys’ creditors petition.

But Tooheys alleges Freeman only managed to hand over $19,645 through garnishee payments and still owes $51,200.

It has now taken court action to have him declared bankrupt.

The matter is listed to go before the Federal Circuit Court on August 27.
