Sunshine Coast food tour now in the palm of your hand

FROM fresh seafood direct from the trawlers to leafy vegetables grown on our hinterland, the pot has been stirred on the Sunshine Coast's thriving food industry.

The region's tourism body, Sunshine Coast Destination, has launched a new mobile site to allow tech-savvy visitors to plan their foodie fun in the palm of their hand.

The Food Trail mobile site shows visitors and locals alike where to go to explore the way food goes from paddock to plate with a full rundown of venues such as wineries, restaurants, farms and markets.

More than 400 Sunshine Coast businesses feature and with more and more travellers choosing to plan their trip from their mobile devices, it's the perfect way to plan personalised foodie tours.

And the technology has come just in time.

Tourism Australia says 95% of Sunshine Coast visitors class "good food" as a motivator for coming to the region.

Visitors can plan a "half-day-taste" or a "full buffet" self-guided tour by plotting their own trail on a map.

The new site has been developed by Sunshine Coast Destination in partnership with Tourism Events Queensland and the Sunshine Coast, Gympie and Noosa Councils and Destination Gympie Region.

"We believe the Sunshine Coast is qualified to own the title of Queensland's leading 'food tourism' destination and this new mobile site will help visitors truly engage and interact with the region's extensive and diverse product mix," Sunshine Coast Destination CEO Simon Ambrose said.
