Gluten free cakes? They’re just one of the delights at Mosman’s Cafe Free

IT’S a well-known fact that Mosman is one of Sydney’s cafe hubs. But few would know there is now one serving only gluten and lactose free fayre.

There are hundreds dotted throughout the municipality, offering locals and visitors plenty of choice and convenience.

But when a new cafe opens, there is little sign of cafe fatigue.

It’s what leads us to Cafe Free, the creation of brother and sister team Adam and Zoe Doyle.

When it opened in Mandolong Rd earlier this year, plenty of people had reason to celebrate.

In specialises in gluten and lactose free options, hence the reference to free in its name.

The cafe’s food and drink options are not free, despite the best efforts of some cheeky customers.

That means there’s an ever-changing menu for those who are gluten or lactose intolerant.

Gluten free waffles for breakfast ($16)? You betcha.

Oh, and it comes with peach compote and maple bacon candy.

Gluten free muesli with lactose free yoghurt ($10)? Yes, that’s there too.

Need a lactose free coffee or chai latte or dairy free hot chocolate? You’re covered there as well.

So where to start?

So many questions, so much food to devour.

For breakfast (7-11am) it’s the gluten free corn fritters with smoked salmon, poached egg and avocado ($16).

Talk about starting the day off right, this dish is perfectly crafted to satisfy your stomach.

And lunch (11am-2pm)?

Well, it’s the beef cheeseburger sliders on gluten free bread with caraway mustard and onion rings ($15).

You’ll savour every mouthful — they’re packed full of flavour and go down a treat.

There’s also a snacks and kids menu.

Before you leave, don’t forget to have one of the cakes on offer.

Turns out you can have your (gluten free) cake and eat it, too.
