Julie Goodwin to host Chef’s Table Dinner at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club

Julie Goodwin’s philosophy on food is simple: cook with plenty of love and generosity.

The original MasterChef winner is taking this approach to the Chef’s Table Dinner at Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club on Thursday.

Goodwin will prepare a three-course menu for guests using seasonal ingredients, with chefs from the club to execute the dishes on the night.

With more and more cooking shows cropping up across all television networks, people have become more knowledgeable about food, Goodwin said.

“The club has recognised that people are more food-literate and that they’re interested in food,” Goodwin said.

She believes in using local and inexpensive produce wherever possible – something that will underpin the menu on the night.

Since winning the first season of MasterChef, Goodwin has published cookbooks and appeared on shows including Food Safari and the Today show for a weekly cooking segment.

In the six years since MasterChef ended Goodwin has become a household name epitomising the humility of the home cook.

“I learnt so much through that process. Now I get to dedicate so much more of my time to cooking.

“My culinary horizons have broadened.”

Nowadays, Goodwin is combining her passion for business and her love of cooking with Julie’s Place, a cooking school based in North Gosford.

She has spent the better part of the past year working on a new cookbook, which will be released in October.

Homemade Takeaway will include recipes for takeaway options that can be made at home, including burgers, Thai and Indian dishes.

The Chef’s Table Dinner starts at 7pm.
