The Adelaide eatery that’s got what it takes: SA Restaurant and Catering Association’s Cafe Hall of Fame inductee

So say Athelstone residents and mother and daughter Vicki Reid and Rosalie Lewis who catch up every week at Campbelltown’s Assaggio Cafe.

The Newton Rd cafe has just been inducted into the SA Restaurant and Catering Association’s Cafe Hall of Fame, after winning the Best Cafe award in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Ms Reid says a mixture of great food and happy staff keeps her coming back.

“I come here for coffee and cake once a week and for dinner every now and then as well,” Ms Reid says.

“It’s the warm and friendly atmosphere that brings us back every week and its good food.

“My favourite is the mini lemon tarts and I have them almost every week and then I also like the bolognese gnocchi.

“The staff are always so welcoming and always come over and have a chat.”

Mrs Lewis agreed: “You also get to know the other customers, even if you’re just waving to say hello, because this cafe always had regulars. They make nice coffees here, that’s for sure.”

Co-owner Rob Catanzariti says its staff pride themselves on consistency.

“We pride ourselves on good, clean food, simple, but with good flavours, and with service, we offer table service in a friendly and casual environment,” Mr Catanzariti says.

“I think having regulars comes with being consistent and we have produced something and maintained that level with not only food, but with service and customers know what they are expecting will be what they get.

“Being inducted into the Hall of Fame was pretty special.”

Mr Catanzariti also praised his staff and the loyal customers for their support, saying the award wins and Hall of Fame induction could not have happened without them.
