Chef brings a touch of Japan to North Bundaberg

ANYONE could be forgiven for thinking North Bundaberg was the new place to be in Bundy, with a little bit of Japan popping up right here in the rum city.

A desire to share the flavours of fresh Japanese cuisine was all the inspiration Kevin Lee needed to open Kevin's Restaurant on Gavin St.

The seasoned chef said it was his pleasure to share clean, healthy food with his family so that was what he wanted to give the people of Bundaberg too.

"I opened Kevin's restaurant because I have a dream of sharing fantastic food with others," he said.

Mr Lee worked as a chef in Japan for seven years before opening his own restaurant in April.

"Kevin's Restaurant is different because we cook all our food upon order instead of serving pre-cooked food," he said.

"This allows the customer to get the freshest Japanese cuisine in Bundaberg."

Mr Lee said a few items on the menu included noodle dish yakisoba, traditional Japanese okonomiyaki pancakes, bento boxes, karage chicken basket with salad and chips and tempura prawn udon as well as a big range of sushi options.

"It is very hard to pick just one meal from the menu that is the best, as I consider anything at Kevin's Restaurant to be the best quality we can provide for customers," he said.

"If I had to choose I would say the yakisoba and tempura prawn udon are excellent dishes, I also believe anything from the sushi roll menu is great."

He said people who didn't like Japanese food were also catered for.

"We primarily serve Japanese cuisine, but we also serve numerous western style foods," he said.

"I found that the classic fish and chips was always more popular with the locals than sushi."

Those with a sweet tooth are also catered for with a range of Japanese soft drinks and homemade waffles.

"We serve waffles as a dessert," he said.

"We have our own recipe with fresh soft cream."

Kevin's Restaurant is located at Shop 2, 90 Gavin St, North Bundaberg.
