MasterChef judge Gary Mehigan sued over unpaid bills

Chef and MasterChef judge Gary Mehigan is being sued with his two business partners over a financial dispute at their Melbourne catering business.

In a statement of claim issued today in the Supreme Court of Victoria, Melbourne businessman and project manager Robert Pavlovic says Mehigan and his business partners Paul Romanella and Steve Bogdani owe him $167,973. The trio, as Big Kitchen (Australia) Pty Ltd, operate 64 Sutton in the suburb of North Melbourne, an events space that is home to their catering business Big Kitchen Events.

Mr Pavlovic alleges he was engaged to manage building works at the site and that several invoices have not been paid. The sum he alleges in his writ that is owed includes interest of more than $12,000.

Mehigan, Romanella (a long time employee of Mehigan’s at various restaurants) and Mehigan’s long-term business partner Bogdani, an accountant, launched their catering business late last year.

“64 Sutton is Melbourne’s latest industrialised venue,” says the Big Kitchen website. “A warehouse inspired event space located in the urban neighbourhood of North Melbourne. It incorporates functional spaces‚ full commercial kitchen facilities in one-of-a kind surrounding.”

The Australian was unable to reach Mr Mehigan to ascertain whether he and his co-defendants intended to defend the claim.
