Food truck fervour is rolling further north with Preston pegged for a new foodie park

SAY FAREWELL to Thornbury.

With the roaring success of the recently opened Welcome to Thornbury food truck park, Preston is preparing for a food truck park of its own to drive into town.

The Preston Food Truck Park will open this month at 518 High St, a vacant lot that will be turned into a foodies paradise in just weeks.

Australian Mobile Food Vendors Group director Frank Rusitovski said the bare patch of land would be transformed into an “exciting space” in no time at all.

“Because our stuff’s more mobile, it’s all about preparing it and getting it ready,” Ms Rusitovski said. “You’ll see the whole place transform and you’ll think it’s taken six months to get going, but it only takes us a few days.”

Preston’s flourishing foodie scene and residential boom were big drawcards for the food truck park to roll in to the area Mr Rusitovski said.

“I was raised in Preston, so I’m quite familiar with the area and I see the potential in the space,” he said. “I think Preston’s evolving, it’s becoming a new place and I think there’s opportunity there for new businesses to enter the space and cater for the public needs.”

“I think people are crying for something different, and I think the area deserves it.

“We’ve seen it happen in Fitzroy and Northcote, and I think its Preston’s turn, and we’re about driving that sooner rather than later.”

The Preston Food Truck Park will open this month, and is expected to welcome a rotating roster of up food trucks — up to 10 at a time — serving lunches and dinners on weekends, and at a handful of other times and days.
