Hospitality Excellence

Hospitality students at William Angliss Institute are gaining first-hand industry experience working with a range of industry partners both externally and at the Angliss restaurant in the Melbourne CBD.

William Angliss Institute is Australia's largest hospitality training provider. By studying at the Institute, students can gain the skills and knowledge that will allow them entry into Melbourne's world class restaurant and bar industry, setting them up for supervisory and leadership positions internationally too.

The Angliss Restaurant gives students the opportunity to work with the crème-de-la-crème of Melbourne's vibrant culinary scene.

Certificate III in Hospitality student Francesco Locatelli from Italy said he had learned a lot from working at a Great Chefs event at Matteo’s restaurant.

“It has been great to work in a professional restaurant setting and learn from industry leaders.  Working closely with Matteo it was his attention to detail that really stood out and I learned how important this is to the whole restaurant experience,” Francesco said.

More than one hundred William Angliss Institute students participated in the World’s Longest Lunch, held as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival this year at the Grand Prix racetrack alongside Albert Park Lake.

Students working front of house served a delicious three course lunch for 1600 guests.

Centre Manager at William Angliss Institute’s Centre for Tourism and Hospitality, Karon Hepner, said these industry events provide a fantastic opportunity for students to experience some of the challenges of working at special events.

“Often in these situations you may not have the same equipment you would have in a typical restaurant or café and you have to think on your feet. This is a great experience for our students. They learn to adapt and be flexible on the job.

“As a result the Institute’s graduates are highly regarded in industry and have had the chance to study in real world environments,” Karon said.

The Institute offers hospitality studies from a Certificate II through to degree levels and for those interested in a career in hotel management, Angliss International Hotel School offers a Diploma of Hospitality Management with a specialised hotel management focus.
